The MTA is Hiring a Chief of Police!

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking a dynamic, highly experienced, effective change agent with excellent communication skills, for Chief of Police, MTAPD, to lead, build and reform, the nation's 6th largest police department.
This highly visible and influential position will develop and direct security programs to keep the MTA's 8 million daily customers, 70,000 employees and over $100 billion dollars of infrastructure safe and secure on all MTA properties and transportation networks. In addition, this position is responsible for leading a best-in-class police force, that delivers fair, diligent, vigilant, helpful, community-minded policing while safeguarding the MTA's riding public and employees. This role will enforce standards of conduct associated with the entire MTA transportation system that includes six operating agencies and MTA properties throughout the five boroughs of New York City, all Long Island, major sections of NYS, Hudson Valley and Southwestern CT, in addition to the roadways across seven bridges, two tunnels in mixed environments of urban, suburban and rural communities, and two major and historic transportation hubs (Grand Central Terminal & NY Penn Station), while defending against inappropriate behaviors, crime, possible terrorism activity and trespassers.
The Chief of Police will interact on behalf of the MTA Chairman with the NYS Governor's Office, the NYC Mayor's Office, the NYC Police Commissioner and Police Department, local county and city officials that are along the MTA right-of-way, as well as the Press corps. The MTA Police Chief is also accountable for leading joint efforts with other police, city, state, and federal authorities on all matters of security, including comprehensive counter-terrorism efforts.
Additionally, the Chief of Police must understand and address the security needs and priorities of the MTA Board, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Chief of Safety & Security and Presidents of the LIRR, Metro-North Railroad, NYC Transit and Bridges & Tunnels.
Further, this position must ensure the MTAPD is properly trained by successfully integrating counter-terrorism operations in defense of the transit system and its ridership, drive coordination and implementation of security programs with the police forces of the many city, county, state, and suburban communities within the MTA's geographic footprint to address event-security, as well as potential and actual crime activity to deliver effective, efficient and necessary security across the system.
